BACKGROUND

This project was for a client in the B2B project delivery software space. The goal was to identify where pages on the same domain were competing against each other in search results, diagnose the severity of each conflict, and prescribe the correct resolution for each cluster.

I identified nine cannibalization clusters through a systematic five-step process using Google Search Console data, then documented each cluster with individual page performance data, a diagnosis of why the cannibalization was occurring, and specific implementation instructions. The resolution map covered four outcome types: consolidate, delete, redirect, and monitor, with each decision based on the backlink equity at risk, the sessions being split, and whether a stronger winner page could be identified.

The result was a full implementation sequence with the steps ordered to prevent rankings from temporarily worsening during the transition, including internal link auditing, winner page expansion, content extraction, redirect deployment, and sitemap submission in the correct order.
