BACKGROUND
This project was for a client in the digital health information space. The goal was to produce a long-form guide on Type 2 diabetes diagnosis and management that served recently diagnosed readers with accuracy, emotional care, and full regulatory compliance.
I wrote a brief that treated compliance requirements as structural constraints from the start rather than a final review checklist, building the mandatory medical and legal review workflow, the source annotation requirements, and the YMYL quality signals directly into the brief's architecture. The tone guidance went beyond the standard brand TOV to address the specific challenge of holding two truths simultaneously: that this is a serious diagnosis, and that it is a manageable one. Every section of the recommended structure included compliance notes specific to that section rather than generic cautions at the end.
The result was a brief that gave the assigned writer, medical reviewer, and legal team a single document covering editorial, clinical, regulatory, and SEO requirements without ambiguity about which took precedence when they conflicted.
